5 minutes from some of the most beautiful coastline in Italy, within walking distance of shops, recently renovated house sleeping 4/6 people in the historic center of Salve.

For many years, the Capo, the tip of the Salento, finibus terrae, was denigrated as backward by the bourgeoisie from Lecce. Now it has gained worldwide recognition for its amazing scenery of olive groves, rocky hills, long sandy beaches, deeply coloured creeks and its dry stone constructions. Further, some of the area around Salve is now protected by UNESCO.

Here we propose a gite for the traveller who wishes to experience the real salento and live in an ancient house where every trouble has been taken to render the place authentic, traditional, and still maintain modern comforts. The maestro, Vito Russo, oversaw the work and helped choose colours, find old doors and craftsmen who still work the 'old way.'

The vaulted living room that greets the traveller is amazing: about 6 metres high, blanched chalk white. The extreme complexity of the vaults seem to infer that this was an ancient chapel. From here you move freely into the fitted kitchen in exposed Leccese stone with fireplace, oven, cooker, marble sink. Both these rooms give onto a private garden/terrace of about 40m2 with a very old orange tree, vine and herb gardens.

There are two double rooms on the ground floor. One with a fireplace giving directly onto a shared courtyard (at the entrance to the house). The other has a fascinating high vaulted ceiling and is very peaceful. The large bathroom (20m2) has a huge, cavernous shower, basin, bidet and WC.

There is a bright sunny studio on the terrace. Another bedroom or dressing room where two small beds can be made available.

On the first floor, there is a kid's room with bunk bed.

Finally, a very private sun drenched roof terrace for sun-bathing if you can bare the power of the southern sun! From the roof-terrace, you can survey the historic center of Salve, olive groves and vineyards, palm trees swaying, and look as far as the sea only 5 mins away.

The property is ideal for a family of 5/6 people (four adults plus children) or for two couples.

The price in high season is 45 euros per person per day. Obviously it is possible to talk directly with the owner as to availability and price. Low season rents are also possible. The property is centrally heated by gas. All plumbing and electrics are new and pass local safety norms. Water is pumped from a private cistern. All mattresses are new. Have a relaxing time!
